The flow rate is already given as 720 gpm (volume per unit time).  The filtration rate is also given, as 6 gpm/ft2 (flow rate per unit area).  Then the area (which is what we want) is the ratio of flow rate to filtration rate:
 
area = 720/6 ft2 = 120 ft2
 
You can also get it from dimensional analysis.
