First we have to know that a football field is a rectangle so the opposite sides are equal to each other.

 

 

so lets say that

 

width = x

then

length = x + 180 

 

2(length) + 2(width) = Perimeter

 

2(x + 180) + 2(x) = 1060

 

2x + 360 + 2x = 1060

 

4x + 360 = 1060

     - 360     -360

 

 4x = 700

x = 175 ft.

 

 

Now we know that width = 175 ft

 

so, length = x + 180

      

     length = 175 + 180

 

     length = 355 ft

 

 

Check,

 

2(355) + 2(175) = 1060

 

710 + 350 = 1060

 

1060 = 1060
