Simple pre-algebraic formulas

Bob smelts coal in two different forges in his coal smelting shop in fairyland. If one forge smelts the coal at a rate of one coal per 3 seconds and one forge smelts the coal at a rate of one coal per 5 seconds then how much coal should he give each if he wants 1040 coal to be done at about the same time? What is the quickest way to reach that conclusion algebraically?
