Math- fraction application

Question

Ont heir youth basketball team this season, Joey scored 3/8 of 1/2 of the team's points, while ken scored 3/4 of 1/3 of the team's points.  Who scored more points and what was the difference between their two points?

 

I got that Ken scored more but unfortunately I cannot figure out by how much. I assumed that changing the fractions to have matching denominators and subtracting would give the answer but it isn't so. The answer for point difference made no sense to me at all//

x = total points team scored

Joey's points = J = (3/8)(1/2)(x) = (3/16)(x)

Kens' points = K = (3/4)(1/3)(x) =(1/4)(x) = (4/16)(x)

 

First compare J and K:

(3/16)(x) < (4/16)(x)

So, Ken scored more points.

 

Next, subtract K - J:

(4/16 - 3/16)(x) = (1/16)(x)

So, the difference between their points is one sixteenth of the total team points.
