The length of a rectangle is 8 feet longer then it's width ,which has the same dimension as the side of the square . If the area of the rectangle is equal to 160 square feet more then the area of the square, what are the length and width of the rectangle?

rectangle: l = w+8

area: lw = (w+8)w = w² + 8w

 

square area: w²

 

w²+8w = w²+160

8w = 160

 

Solve for w 

then length is w+8
