3 times the least is 3 greater than 2 times the greatest => 3a = 2c + 3            |

Substituting in for c (from the second equation) in the last equation : 3a = 2(a + 4) + 3

 

Expanding: 3a = 2a + 8 + 3

 

Solving :    -2a = -2a + 11

 

Solution:      a = 11
