Chad poured a sidewalk that is 42 inches long. He is going to start at the beginning and make a cut every 2 inches. Homay by cuts will chad make?

If you know how long the sidewalk is, 42 inches, then you just need to know how many times you'll have 20 inches to cut. To find out how many times a number would fit into another, you divide the two numbers. In this case, we would divide 42 by 20, looking like this: 42 ÷ 20

When I do it I get 2 Remainder 2 (or 2.1 if you do in a calculator).

We would ignore the decimal/remainder part of the answer since you can't make a fractional cut- so, Chad will cut the sidewalk twice.
