Use the Pythagorean theorem to find the length of the unknown side (c) of the right triangle. A=2, b=4 (hypotenuse)

b=4

c² = a² + b²             [The Pythagorean Theorem]

 

c² = 2² + 4²

c² = 4 + 16

c² = 20

c = √20

c = √(4*5)

c = 2√5

4^2 = 2^2 + c^2

16 = 4 + c^2

12 = c^2

c = 2√3 units
