Since you want to solve for x, use substitution to substitute one equation into the other. This will result in a single equation with the single variable x.
From the first equation,
y = x - 7
Then substituting into the other equation,
4x = 6 - 2(x - 7)
Solve for x from this equation.
From the first equation,
y = x - 7
Then substituting into the other equation,
4x = 6 - 2(x - 7)
Solve for x from this equation.

x = 7 + y ; 4x = 4(7 + y) = 28 + 4y = 6 - 2y ---> 4y + 2y = 6 - 28 ---> 6y = -22 ---> y = -22/6 = -11/3 --->
x = 7 + (-11/3) = 21/3 - 11/3 = 10/3
