price of one pen

Gene and JoAnn each bought some Ink-O pens and an ink eraser. Gene paid $1.75 for 3 pens and 1 eraser. JoAnn paid $1.25 for 2 pens and 1 eraser. What is the price of one of the pens?

let's call the price of pens x

and the prince of eraser y

then we obtain the two following equations:

3x+y = 1.75 ==> Gene equation

2x+y = 1.25 ==> JoAnn equation

 

know it's just about solving this equations for x and y
