30-60-90 triangle

In a right triangle where angle A=30 degrees and AC=12 what is the hypotenuse? Please break down how you got your answer. Thank you.

Which leg is AC, the one opposite the 30° angle or  the leg next to (adjacent) the 30° angle?
  • If AC is the leg opposite to the 30° angle, then 12 = x.  The hypotenuse is 2x, so it's 2*12 = 24
  • If AC is the leg adjacent to the 30° angle, then 12 = x√3 and 4√3 = x.  The hypotenuse is 2x so it would be 2*4√3 = 8√3
