Please can someone explain this average sum in detail to me? I don't understand this kind of average question:

Between 4 cricketers in a team, an average of 24 runs were scored during a match. Jason scored 12 runs, Hue scored 51 runs. If peter scored 21 runs, how many runs did Jason score?

Answer: (21+12+51+x)/4=24

88+x=96

x=12

T, what do you not understand? To find the average, you add the scores and divide by the number of scores.

 

The average of 8, 10, 12, and 14 is...

 

(8 + 10 + 12 + 14)/4 = 44/4 = 11

 

If you are missing part of the data, plug in a letter and solve for that letter.
