What is the sum of solutions to the equation? 3x^2 +7x -2= (x+1) ^2

I got the answers but I still don't know how to answer the question, what is the sum of the solutions? 

 

3x^2+7x -2 = (x+1) (x+1)
3x^2+7x -2 = x^2 +2x + 1
2x^2 +5x -3 = 0
(2x-1) (x+3)
x = -3
y = 1/2

9/4 + (√105)/4 + 9/4 - (√105)/4 = 9/4 + 9/4 = 9/2 = 4.5

 

The two radical terms have opposite signs and sum to zero.
