what's a real life situation for using the sytem of equations

you know, the ones that take about five steps to solve and if you mess up early on it can really screw you.

Not sure quite what your after but I worked in the glass industry and wrote a computer program to calculate the raw material mix to be added to the furnace.  This was a system of equations with 5-8 variables.
