help with GFC and LCM

How do I find the GCF and the LCM for 9x^2y and 36xy^3

9 X^2 Y , 36 X Y^3

 

  LCM = product of Common factors with highest exponent

 

  GcF = products of common factors with lowest exponents

             9 X^2 Y   = 2⁰ 3² X² Y 

           

 

              36 X Y^3   = 2² 3² X Y³

 

             LCM =  2² 3² X²Y ³ = 36 X²Y³

 

             GCF = 3²X Y = 9XY

In this case the gcf could have been 9x^2y if not for the lone x term in the other number so we have to settle for 9xy as a gcf. As for the lcm, we could look at 36xy^3 and just incorporate the x^2 term from our first number, making the lim 36x^2y^3.
