Word problem

a long distance phone company charges a monthly service fee of $4.95 per month and $0.08 per minute for each phone call. In April the monthly bill was $27.27. How many long distance minutes did they use in April?

Misty S.

To set up the equation you do 4.95+.08x=27.27 Then you subtract 4.95 for each side and you get .08x=22.32 If you divide by .08 on each side, you should get x=279. That means they used 279 long distance minutes in April.
