How do I know if I have factored an expression completely

When I factor an expression I am not sure if it's completely factored

if you have a quadratic factor, such as ax² + bx + c) it may be further factorable; it is NOT FURTHER FACTORABLE if its discriminant, b²-4ac, is NOT A PERFECT SQUARE.
