The Battle of Midway was a large naval battle fought in in the Pacific Ocean in June 1942 between aircraft carrier forces of the United States and the Imperial Japaneses Navy (IJN).  It was a decisive battle that turned the tide of the war against Japan in the Pacific.  The IJN lost 4 aircraft carriers and several other warships, while the US lost a carrier and a few other ships.  Japan never recovered from the loss.  After Midway, the US went on offensive against the Japaneses forces in the Pacific, leading ultimately to total victory in 1945.
