120 = 2(x+2) + 2x

 

120 = 2x +4 + 2x

 

4x = 116

 

x = 29

 

 

The length of the rectangle is 31 inches and its width is 29 inches.

Let's say width = x and so length = x+2.

 

Write an equation adding up two lengths plus two widths to equal perimeter 120

 

Solve for x. You will get an odd number, and by adding two you'll get the next odd number.

 

These two consecutive odd numbers are width & length.  Easy, wasn't it?
