We know that a + b =2 and a/b = .69
We then also know that a = .69 b (just multiply both sides by b)
Then we substitute .69b for a in the first equation giving us:
.69 b + b = 2
adding up the b's gives us
1.69 b =2
dividing both sides by 1.69 gives us
b = 2/1.69 or 1.1834 and
a = 2 - 1.1834
a= .8166
Hope this helps
