Assuming it is released from rest and neglecting air resistance, the distance y that it falls is

 

y = (1/2)gt²

 

y = ft

g = acceleration of gravity = 32.17 ft/s²

t = seconds

 

t = √(2y/g) = √[(2)(80)/(32.17)] s = 2.23 s
