1) is that supposed to be a fraction of 14/3 (fourteen thirds) or the equation 14÷3? (by the way, you can make the ÷ by holding the alt key and typing 0247).
2) I'm assuming the "y" i the description is a typo for "my 12 year old daughter"...... unless the y is part of the equation, in which case the answer will be very different.
Assuming the y is NOT part of the equation, it would go like this:
7x+7=14/3
then get rid of the 7 by itself on each side by subtracting it from each side
7X+7-7=14/3-7
7x=14/3-7
then make x by itself by dividing both sides by 7
(7x)/7=(14/3-7)/7
x=(14/3-7)/7
Assuming that it's a fraction you will need to turn the two 7's into fractions of thirds as well.
x=((14/3)-(21/3))/(21/3)
x=(-7/3)/(21/3)
Then to divide fractions, turn the second fraction upside down and multiply instead
x=(-7/3)x(3/21)
x=-21/63
and simplify
x=-1/3
If the "y" is part of the equation, there will be a very different answer, so I'll wait to see if that's part of it or just a typo.
