Write and solve quadratic equation

Question

you want the area of the blanket to be 24ft^2. You want the length to be 2 ft longer than its width. What should the dimensions of the blanket be?

Answer 1

If it were square and 25 sq ft, then each side would be 5 ft.

 

If it were rectangular, 4 ft by 6 ft, it would be 24 square feet, and the length would indeed be 2 ft longer than the width of 4 ft.

 

So this is a quick way to achieve the answer WITHOUT HAVING TO WRITE & SOLVE A QUADRATIC EQUATION.

Not that there's anything wrong with it, as follows.

 

Let dimensions be x and x+2;  x(x+2) = 24.  Can you solve it?
