Combine like terms

 

⁵/₃x = 90

Multiply ³/₅ on both side

x = 54

 

Smaller angle = ²/₃x

²/₃ (54) = 36

 

36, 54

 

To verify: 36 + 54 = 90

The measures of complementary angles add up to 90 degrees. If the measure of one angle is x, then the measure of the other angle is 2/3 x.

 

We have x + 2/3 x = 90

 

5/3 x = 90

 

5x = 270

 

x = 54 degrees = the measure of one angle
