You did this right:
8(cos 225°+isin225) = 8(-√2/2-i√2/2)
But now you should have distributed the 8 to get:
= –4√(2) – 4√(2) i
I think you read √2/2 as √(2/2) = √(1);
but cos(225°) = sin(225°) = – (√(2))/2
which, when multiplied by 8 gives – 4√(2).
