Thanks, the fact is that i have to defend Stalin in a debate which is about the 'best leaders' during the WW2. It is a contest, but i cannot find a way to defend him. I know he was such an idiot.

If it's useful for future answers. I found and discovered that he autoproclaimed by himself the Gardener of the People's Happiness for just one reason, he was no effective at all if we talk about human rights and freedom because what he was doing was completely awful, however he was effective (i mean maintaining him in the power) thanks by his propaganda that was one of the best around World's history. It was even better than Hitler's or Mao's ones. His propaganda consisted to make him see as 'the perfect Russian', apart from the typical propaganda there are some kind of techniques that we used nowadays and that were 'secretly discovered' by the Russians, I mean it could be secretly because they had a lot of groups hided, like the Cheka. The technique was the one that is now called photoshop (we though that it was not discovered). Also he was very effective because he kept a lot of information like the Holodomour in his hands and did not admit some stuff that he did (he was a coward, but a smartest one), he was an unpredictable man and that was another reason why he was an admirable leader.
Despite the official history, i think that we have to learn that he was very succesful if we talk about his acts, I mean, he installed the terror in Russia but he also brought technology to the country, he governed one of the biggest countries around the world, he united a society (with terror but he did it), he maintained economic stability in the country and he was so secure about what he was doing. He also put Russia in the UN which gave him more international prestige, he won the WW2, he brought economic prosperity for the Russians and used the propaganda better than the others like Mussolini, Franco or Hitler.
The curious thing here is that when he died, some Russians say that even the Syberia's prisioners cried. He was not completely hated in Russia, even though he was one of the worst persons around the world. He won the soul of a nation.
It is one of my conclussions.

If my crazy opinion can not be understood.
Stalin was effective thanks to:
  • Unknown propaganda techniques.
  • Classical propaganda techniques.
  • Distribution of labours and sources in the country according to the abilities.
  • Secret information and lies.
  • Unpredictable acts.
  • Army
  • Terror.
  • Productivity of the people.
His consequences were:
  • Economic stability.
  • Won international and national prestige. (we have to say that he also inspired Mao Zedong)
  • No rebels. (there were some but they were executed, no one could be against him)
  • Introduction of new technology.
  • Order.
