The sum is addition, so 36 + 9.

 

Then twice that (two times that answer). 

 

It seems tricky, because the way it is written it almost sounds like the multiplication should come first. But you're multiplying the sum, so you have to find that first.

First you find the sum:  36 + 9 =

 

Then multiply the sum by 2
