This equation is quadratic in the variable, p.  So, we can solve for p in terms of x and q.
 
By the quadratic formula, p = [x ± √(x2+4q)]/2

We can also solve for x in terms of p and q or q in terms of x and p.  The question isn't clear as to what variable you are solving for.
