 What calculations can be used to calculate seed germination for Biology IA.i watered seeds with different liquids such as coca cola,orange juice and milk and iam comparing the height growth to see if my hypothesis that plants watered with tap water will outgrow ones watered with different liquids. I have collected height growth for 10 days.

How to structure your Calculations for plant growth and germination :

!.Germination percentage :

•To measure how many seeds actually sprouted.

Number of seeds germinated

Germination percentage ( % ) = —————————————— x 100

Number of seeds planted

Example :

If 8 out of 10 seeds germinated,

8 / 10 x 100 = 80 %

2.Mean Plant Height :

•Calculate the average growth for each treatment ( tap water,coca cola,orange juice,milk) as follows :

Sum of all plant heights

Mean Height ( cm ) = ------------------------------------------

Number of plants measured

Example :

If five plants have heights 5,6,4,5,5cm,

5 + 6 + 4 + 5 + 5

Mean = ----------------------------- = 5.0 cm.

3.Average Daily Growth Rate :

To show how fast the plants grew over time :

Final Height — initial height

Average Growth Rate ( cm / day ) = --------------------------------------------

Example :

If a plant grew from 1 cm to 6 cm in 10 days :
