Ryan and James had $512 between them. Ryan received $75 more than James. How much money did James receive? Show work algebraically.

I know that I need to divide 512 then for Ryan 256 + 75 = 331

                                                           James 256 - 75 = 181  James received

 

 

 

 

 

I am missing something for the work

2x + 75 = 512. (NOT 75X)

 

so then 2x = 512-75, or 437

 

So then x = half of 437, or 218.50 for James.

 

Then 218.50 + 75 = 293.50 for Ryan.

 

218.50+293.50=512
