Please help me solve this equation. I have been trying for awhile now and still cannot figure it out.

 

A car moving at a constant speed passed a timing device at t=0. After 9 seconds, the car has traveled 972 ft. Write a linear function rule to model the distance in feet d the car has traveled any number of seconds t=0after passing the timing device.

Novalea, we know that distance = rate x time, right? We need to find the rate, which will also be our slope.

 

How do we find slope? Change in y/change in x. In this case, t is x and d is y, so...

 

(972 - 0)ft/(9 - 0)seconds = 108 ft/second

 

Since the car is moving at a constant speed, we have no other terms.

 

d = 108t

 

In order to be a rule, we change d to f(t).

 

f(t) = 108t
