Hi Ralph, I believe this is what you meant: √(x + 6) + √(2 - x) = 0. If this is correct the way to solve this problem is to move one of the factors to the other side of the equal sign and then square both factors.
Solution:
√(x + 6) + √(2 - x) = 0
√(x + 6) = -√(2 - x)
(√(x + 6))2 = (-√(2 - x))2
x + 6 = 2 - x
From here you can solve for x.

But, -2 does not satisfy the given equation. So, there is no solution.
Note: The left side of the given equation is positive unless √(x+6) and √(2-x) are both equal to 0. Since they can't both be zero simultaneously, the equation as stated has no solution.
