The celiac trunk is the second branch of the abdominal aorta. It supplies the stomach, spleen, liver, gall bladder, esophagus, pancreas and duodenum. The pain associated with obstruction of any of these major arteries is thought to be due to organ ischemia, or the lack of oxygen-rich blood to these organs.
