If you expand this:

 

2+3x-3=x-1 or 3x-1=x-1

 

take all x's on one side and numbers on the other side:

 

3x-x=1-1  (remember when you move from one side of the equal sign to the other side, the sign changes)

 

So, 2x=0 and hence x=0
