Can you rename 2/4 as 3/6?

I realize they are equivalent, but can 2/4 be renamed as 3/6 even if there is no number to multiply or divide each of them by to get the other fraction?

Two things:

 

(2/4)(1.5/1.5) = 3/6

 

Also, cross multiply...

 

2(6) = 3(4)

12 = 12

They are equal.

2/4 = 3/6.     They are "equal."

 

Consider (3/2) and (2/3):

    2/4  =  ((3/2)(2)) / ((3/2)(4)) = 3/6

 

    3/6  =  ((2/3)(3)) / ((2/3)(6)) = 2/4

Try multiplying and dividing by 3/2 and see that you can get from 2/4 to 3/6.

 

2/4 = [2 (3/2)] / [4 (3/2)] = 3/6
