This is a system of equations. Substitute y in one equation with what y is equal to in the other equation. It doesn't matter which one you choose in this case.
For example,
y = 4x + 1 (before substitution)
-x - 1 = 4x + 1 (after substitution)
Then solve for x to get the value of x. Plug x back into either equation to get the value for y.
