A couch COACH of a high school soccer team decided it's time to practice shooting goals. At this practice their is THERE WERE x amount of players. There was were also enough soccer balls so that each player can have WOULD HAVE HAD y balls to practice with. If there were 6 less players, each player would receive one extra ball and there would be 4 balls left. If there were 5 more players each player would get 1 less ball and there would be 10 balls left. How many players came to practice and how many balls were there in total?
See if this set up makes sense:
x players, y soccer balls per person; xy total # soccer balls.
Alternative # 1: (x-6)(y+1) + 4 = total # soccer balls.
Alternative # 2: (x+5)(y-1) + 10 = total # soccer balls.
If you agree, solve!
