Omar throws a rock down with speed 12 m/s from the top of the tower. The rock hits the ground after 2.0 s. What is the height of the tower? (Air resistance is negligible) Solve this problem using numbers and solve it using units.

Let the height of the tower be h meters

 

acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 m/s^2

 

h = u*t + 1/2*g*t^2;  standard formula for linear motion

 

h = 12*2 + 1/2*9.8*(2)^2; plugging in the values

 

h = 24 + 19.6 = 43.6 m
