If 2 people shared 1/3 of a pie , how much did they get

Jack and lisa took 1/3 of the pie and shared it. How much pie did each person get

1/2 * 1/3 = 1/6 is the correct answer, i.e. one sixth of the pie each, if equally shared.

 

This (from Serge) is misleading: 

3/6 + 2/6 =

6/36 = 1/6

If they shared it equally each received 1/2 of 1/3 of the pie.

 

1/2 * 1/3 =

 

3/6 + 2/6 =

 

6/36 = 1/6
