How many dairy cattle

One sixth of the dairy cattle on a farm are in the barn.  One fourth of the beef cattle are in the barn. There are 12 dairy cattle and 16 beef Cattle in the barn.  How many more dairy cattle are on the farm than beef cattle

Let d = # dairy cattle

Let b = # beef cattle

 

1/6 of dairy cattle are in the barn:

There are 12 dairy cattle in the barn

d/6= 12

d = 12(6)

d = 72

 

1/4 of the beef cattle are in the barn:

There are 16 beef cattle in the barn

b/4 = 16

b = 16(4)

b = 64

 

There are 64 beef cattle and 72 dairy cattle

 

There are 8 more dairy cattle than beef cattle
