Gail Halvorsen was a US Army Air Corps pilot during World War II, and later became famous as the "Candy Bomber" during the Berlin Airlift of 1948 by dropping small packages of candy in parachutes to kids all over Germany. In addition to dropping candy out of the plane using handkerchief parachutes, he would be rushed by children every time his plane landed at a German airfield (usually Tempelhof) , and he would have more candy in his pockets and in other boxes to distribute. He became quite famous for this, and people all over the country pitched in to send him candy and handkerchiefs to help. The Hershey chocolate company donated thousands of Hershey Bars and so did other candy companies. Gail was then profiled in Life Magazine and became famous. So, if you're asking about his candy bombing, I'm sure he was quite happy about that. If you're asking about the strategic bombing that took place over Germany during he war, or the atomic bombings in Japan, (neither of which he had any part of because he was a cargo pilot not a bomber pilot) he would probably say they were all necessary to end the war. The good news is he is still alive and you could still email him and ask.
