Just remember:

to find the x-intercept, set y = 0 (& see what x must be)

to find the y-intercept, set x = 0 (& see what y must be)

The x-intercept is the place where the line crosses the x axis.  That is, the place where y=0.

     3x - 4(0) = 12

       3x = 12

        x = 4

   The point (4,0).

 

The y-intercept is the place where the line crosses the y axis.  That is, the place where x=0.

    3(0) - 4y = 12

      -4y = 12

        y = -3

    The point (0,-3).
