Let's assume the daughter is d years old now. That means that the man is now (32 + d) years old. We are given that the man is also 5 times as old as his daughter now, which means that he is now 5d years old.
Setting the two equations equal:
(32 + d) = 5d
We can solve for the current age of his daughter.
32 = 4d
d = 8
To check our work, if his daughter is now 8 years old, he also aged 8 years. So he is now 40 years old, which is indeed 5 times the age of his daughter (40 / 5 = 8).
