How many rabbits will a fertile pair produce in one year? ...in three years?

If rabbits have a one month gestation period, are fertile after 4 months (and within minutes after giving birth), and have an average of 7 kits per litter, how many rabbits will a fertile adult pair produce in a year?  Assume no deaths, maximum fertility, and a 1-to-1 male/female average.

How many rabbits will be produced in 3 years?

How would I set up this equation for X years?

Is it also possible to assume a 40% mortality rate after M months?

Does each pair continue to bred over 3 years?
Do the pairs mate for "life?"

One could research Fibonacci numbers on this one!  (I've always wondered about the weakening of the gene pool in this theoretical problem, which I believe was first mentioned in Liber Abaci by Leonardo da Pisa, in year 1215.)

The Fibonacci Wabbit Problem had more specific constraints, namely, only one breeding pair was born each time. Here 7 bunnies are born without comment as to sex. If six of them are male only one bunny is born. The admonition that " 1-to-1 male/female average" exists only allow an approximation, i.e. no formula.
