Solar System Model

I'm doing a solar system model project where both the distance from the sun and size of the planet have to be on the same scale. For the background of my model I've cut 100 squares of black paper that are 4 x 4.5 inches, and have already decided that the scale is done by squares and have done all the math for the distance (Mercury is 1 square away from the sun, Venus is 1.8 squares, etc.) but how could I make the actual size of the planet to scale using this method?

How can a square be 4 x 4.5?

From Wikipedia (Solar System Model):  "Solar System models, especially mechanical models, called orreries, that illustrate the relative positions and motions of the planets and moons in the Solar System have been built for centuries. While they often showed relative sizes, these models were usually not built to scale. The enormous ratio of interplanetary distances to planetary diameters makes constructing a scale model of the Solar System a challenging task. As one example of the difficulty, the distance between the Earth and the Sun is almost 12,000 times the diameter of the Earth."
