Hello Kari,
First let's make equations out of the word problem. This all is under the assumption that all the toys were taken by these three children. "The first child took half of the remaning toys" This means that the first child "A" took as many as both of the other children combined, so A=B+C. The third child "C" took the last 5 toys so that's an easy C=5. And we know that the Total "T" is A+B+C.
so we have these equations.
T=A+B+C
A=B+C
C=5
There isn't enough information given for an answer by it's self but you could substitute "C" and express it something like this.
T = A+B+5
or
T=2(B+5) "since A was half of the total toys"
or
T=2B+10
