you already have 2 sticks,but then find 3 more sticks lying on the ground; when you gather the three you just found and combine it with the 2 you already have....you have 5 sticks total!

Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
in the decimal system, with base 10, 2+3 = 5
in a number sytem with base 4, 2+3 = 11
in a number system with base 5, 2+3 = 10
in a number system with base 6 or more 2+3 = 5
in a number system with base 3, 2 or 1, you can't have a "3"
in a number system with base 2 or 1, you can't have a "2"
Make a fist.
Put two fingers up...your thumb and pointer finger.
Put the other three fingers up.
2 + 3 = 5 fingers total on that hand!

When you see the + symbol... that means you add or "put together."
