The investment doubles when P = 2A
So, we must find t so that 2A = Ae0.055t
2 = e0.055t
ln2 = ln(e0.055t)
ln2 = 0.055t
t = ln2/0.055 ≈ 12.6 years

With exponential growth, doubling time is always ln2/interest rate (interest rate in decimal form). Similarly, tripling time is ln3/interest rate, quadrupling time is ln4/interest rate, etc.
