Find to the nearest tenth of a year how long it will take to DOUBLE an investment when it is invested at 5.5% compounded continuously.

P=Aert

For interest compounded continuously, the total amount is given by P=Aert where is the initial amount invested, r is the yearly rate and is the time in years.Find to the nearest tenth of a year how long it will take to DOUBLE an investment when it is invested at 5.5% compounded continuously.

Wow, you made it seem easy. Thank you for your help. I had a few other students ask me about this question and I had to tell them i was just as lost. I will pass along the breakdown of the word problem for them. Thank you so much for your help.

With exponential growth, doubling time is always ln2/interest rate (interest rate in decimal form).  Similarly, tripling time is       ln3/interest rate, quadrupling time is ln4/interest rate, etc.
