Multiply the term outside the parentheses by every term inside the parentheses.
So, multiply 2x2y times 3xy. Think of these as having individual factors, in this case:
2 and x2 and y for the first term, and
3 and x and y for the second term
Multiply the like factors together:
2 times 3
x2 times x, and
y times y
Remember that repeated multiplication of any number or factor can be simplified by writing the # of "times" you're multiplying as the exponent. For example, x4 times x would be like saying
x times x times x times x (that's four times) ... then times that other single x
which would make x5
