Given that points A, B and C lie on a straight line and point B lies between A and C.
Draw a picture of the line and the order of the points A, B, C on it.
Then AC = AB + BC and from simple algebra, BC = AC - AB
Substituting the values of AB and AC in the above equation, BC = 12 - 8 = 4
